Learn how to report to credit bureaus

How to report to credit bureaus always seems to be a topic of confusion.
As credit bureaus develop new products, they begin to see additional ways of using them to complement other new or existing products and services and how to better serve the public. Trans Union, as an example, is beginning to promote the use of its Horizon bankruptcy scoring tool. This measure is a level of risk assigned to accounts 90 or more days past due.

Major credit bureaus such as Trans Union with its Horizon program can focus on general delinquencies and bankruptcies at the same time. The credit bureaus are developing more sophisticated scoring models, and overall, their changes will benefit the consumer.

Names of credit bureaus are almost the same in the United States and Canada, but there are a few more bureaus in the US. The main bureaus are Equifax and Trans Union and most of the reporting is done through these companies. Equifax recently left the insurance services business to better concentrate on financial services. It has also acquired additional card authorization and processing capabilities through alliances with other credit bureaus, along with a focused target marketing concept.

Contacting credit bureaus can be done in several different ways. Perhaps one of the best ways is to visit their websites and contact them this way. There is a charge, however, if you are requesting a credit report. If you send them a request to supply it to you by mail, it may take a while, but there is no charge for this service.

Equifax derives 25 percent of its revenue outside of the United States due to its aggressive marketing around the world. It now operates in 40 countries worldwide. It has also acquired additional card authorization and processing operations and entered into various alliances with other major credit bureaus. If you are someone that is just looking for an update on their credit report, you are advised to send a request away to them and wait for it to be delivered to you by regular mail. This way it is free of charge!
